Redeemer Montclair began as a Fellowship Group in Montclair in 1999. It was made up of members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC who had a vision for a church plant in Montclair. Our first service was on September 16, 2001. We are encouraged to see the growth since 2001 and we look forward to proclaiming and living out the gospel to meet human needs in the Metro New York area.

Redeemer is not “new” in the structure of its beliefs, however. Redeemer wholeheartedly embraces the historic Christian faith expressed in all the ecumenical creeds of the universal church (e.g. the Apostles and Nicene Creeds). It is also committed to the historic Presbyterian form of the Christian tradition, by its subscription to the Westminster Confession of Faith. Redeemer is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, a denomination which is national in scope.

This symbol, called a TRIQUETRA from the Latin word meaning “three cornered,” was used by the early church to represent the Trinity. The three interwoven areas are equal in size, and each can be distinguished from the other two but cannot be separated without destroying the figure. This symbolizes that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three persons of equal power, honor and glory but are indivisibly one God.

Redeemer Montclair is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The PCA is:

Historic

We are committed to the timeless message of the Bible, which was taught by the New Testament church, and recovered during the Protestant Reformation.

Progressive

We believe that God’s unchanging message is so life changing, satisfying, and fulfilling that it must be communicated to each generation in contemporary, culturally relevant language, forms, and styles.

Unique

This combination of a rich historical tradition communicated in culturally relevant forms is unique. The international scope of our movement also gives us unique opportunities. We have ministries working to plant churches throughout North America and throughout the world. We have had 330 new churches started in the past five years, including 50 new works in multi-cultural/non-Anglo populations.
